A unique design challenge
In an exciting collaboration between Crux Design Agency, BBC’s Blue Peter, and In-Space Missions, a young artist’s vision was transformed into a celestial symbol. The Awesome Orbit Competition, an extraordinary initiative spearheaded by British ESA astronaut Tim Peake on Blue Peter, invited children to create an emblem for one of the first UK-launched satellites. This unique contest offered the winning entry not only the distinction of being engraved on the satellite but also the unforgettable experience of witnessing its launch.
Bringing Bethany’s vision to life
Bethany, a bright and creative young winner, captivated the judges with her ‘Earth Sitter’ design. At Crux, we had the honour of bringing her vision to life. The process was a delicate blend of art and technology, involving the digitisation and enhancement of Bethany’s original drawing. Our team carefully prepared the design for its extraordinary journey, ensuring that it would stand the test of space travel.
A day of discovery and inspiration
Our involvement extended to a day of discovery at In-Space Missions, where Bethany explored the fascinating world of satellite manufacturing. This behind-the-scenes experience included a tour of the laboratories and clean rooms where satellites come to life. It was also a day filled with lighter moments, like a friendly game of table football with Bethany and Blue Peter presenter Mwaksy Mudenda.
For Steve Neaves, our creative director, the project was a landmark moment. It marked his first appearance on television and the achievement of earning his first Blue Peter Badge at 50. More importantly, it underscored our commitment at Crux Design Agency to nurturing young talent and pushing the boundaries of design.
This project was a poignant reminder of the power of creativity and collaboration. It wasn’t just about designing a logo; it was about inspiring young minds and giving flight to their dreams. As a UK-based agency, we are proud to have played a part in this remarkable journey that reached from the drawing board to the stars.
